Zion I – All Tha Way

21 Feb

Zion I is still one of my favorite underground hip-hop artists of all time due to their flow and awesome beats. If you haven’t heard any of their old stuff, go check it out…it’s way better than their new stuff if you like classic hip-hop. “All Tha Way” has one of my favorite beats and every MC’s rhymes are on point. Enjoy!

Damien Rice – Unplayed Piano

17 Feb

Damien Rice is a profound Irish folk artist that is a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. He has put out tons of great records and singles for over 10 years and has been a big believer in world charities. “Unplayed Piano” was a special song for him and singer Lisa Hannigan. After a trip to Burma and meeting Suu Kyi, he decided to write this song about her and give all of the proceeds to her. Kyi was a Noble Prize Winner and had been under house arrest for over 7 years. Damien wanted to put all of these proceeds to her 60th birthday in Burma to give her credit where it needed to be. It is really great to see people and musicians do things like this in the world, and it’s too bad it isn’t done more often. Anyway, enjoy this beautiful piece by Damien Rice!

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip – Letter from God to Man

16 Feb

Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip are two crazy dudes from England that have put a new touch on hip-hop in the past. They combine their own lyrics and beats with other people’s lyrics and music. It is definitely a unique style of hip-hop and rapping you don’t hear too often.

The tune I have here today, “Letter from God to Man”, is one of my favorites from them. They made a great mixed up beat from Radiohead’s “Planet Telex” and then rapped over it. Be sure to check out the rest of their stuff. Enjoy!

While We Can (Film)

15 Feb

Freestyle skiing these days has gone downhill as far as being unique and innovating the sport. Competition skiing has blown up on the media and competition skiers have started to be “robots” as Tanner Hall says, not adding their own style to their skiing and doing the same set of tricks as everyone else. For me and many others, it gets to be boring seeing everyone do the same double corks and rail spins. The tricks they do are pretty sick, don’t get me wrong, but there is no excitement in knowing exactly what the skier is going to do on each of hit of the run.

With that said, all of the skiers in this film, “While We Can”, say they “don’t do what we do to inspire others, it’s just something we have to do to reach our own goals in life. But becoming good at something we could only dream of being good at and getting the chance to influence those who share our ideas and values about skiing and life is something that we are really grateful for”.

This is one of the best skiing films I have ever seen in a long time.  The skiing and editing is top notch, the whole vibe throughout is great, and as a skier, it inspired me a lot for not only my skiing, but my life. So enjoy this hour long film and hopefully you can too be inspired by skiing and this way of life. Be sure to watch in HD, fullscreen.

Lotus is a very well known jam band in the community and are usually a hit at any festival they attend. They are most known for their live light shows and awesome jams that always have a groovy, funk, jazzy style to them. “Ball of Energy” is a great tune from their 2004 Nomad album that portrays their style very well. Sit back and enjoy this groovy jam!

Nalepa – Monday (The Glitch Mob Remix)

11 Feb

The Glitch Mob is well know for introducing the glitchy style of electronic music to everyone 4-5 years ago. They are quite good at it to say the least, and it it shown here in their remix of Nalepa’s “Monday”. This track is back from 2008, when they were fairly new and they still killed it. I’m usually not the biggest fan of glitchy music but this one stands out for me. Hope you enjoy this one, and grab the free download as well!
