BT – Every Other Way (Album Mix)

6 Apr

BT is quite the legend when it comes to electronic music, being one of the leaders in the industry. He not only produces and DJs, but is also a film composer and singer, having a part in movies such as Fast and The Furious and Monster. He has also had one of his albums, These Hopeful Machines, be nominated for “Best Electronica/Dance Album”.

“Every Other Way” is a beautiful piece of his singing alongside the great voice of JES. This single not only has a sweet album cover, but has been remixed by the one and only Armin van Buuren. The mix I am sharing here is the album mix, having more of a rock vibe that is chill and less trancy like most of his stuff. Enjoy!

Re:Generation Music Project – Mark Ronson

1 Apr

Mark Ronson is a well known British DJ, producer, and musician that has tons of talent. For Re:Generation, he got assigned to mix his style with Jazz. Being a big fan of jazz and electronic music, I was very excited for this creation. With tons of work and great talent of many musicians, such as Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste, and members of The Dap Kings, “A La Modeliste” was created. This masterpiece consists of lots of good jams, riffs, and lyrics. Check out this great tune and video below!

Re:Generation Music Project – Pretty Lights

29 Mar

The Re:Generation project is probably one of the coolest things done in the music industry recently. In association with the Grammy’s, Re:Generation had five profound producers from all genres mix their style with one they assign to them. For my next five posts, I will feature each track that was done through this project.

Today, I have electronic/glitch-hop/soul producer Pretty Lights, who was assigned the category of country. As you can see, this totally conflicts with his style of producing, but with his insane skills, he made it work and is now one of my favorite songs of all time. In “Wayfaring Stranger”, Derek takes the original lyrics of Ralphy Standley & LeAnn Rimes, along with the original 80’s version of the track, and puts his own original, analog taste on everything. Give this unique one a listen!

Alison May – Brick

27 Mar

I discovered this wonderful indie musician, Alison May, from one of my favorite electronic producers – Andrew Bayer. I featured his track with Alison May, “Brick”, a while back where he features the acoustic guitar and vocals from this original I have for you today. The guitar rhythm and vocals are so beautiful together and has lots of emotion throughout. Enjoy this beautiful tune from Alison May!

Today I have an awesome remix that puts a very jazzy touch on the track, making it totally different from the original. The xylophone, bassline, trumpet, and jazzy drums make this a very unique remix done by Koop. Sit back and relax to this one!

The Radio Dept. – Never Swallow Fruit (Dub)

25 Mar

The Radio Dept. is a Swedish indie pop group going back all the way to 1995. I came across this awesome tune while listening to SiriusXM’s channel “Chill”. If you enjoy chill electronic beats, I highly suggest to give this station a listen. “Never Swallow Fruit (Dub)” is a great dub track with a groovy bassline, drums, and vocal samples – reminding me a lot of Thievery Corporation. Sit back and relax to this great tune from The Radio Dept.!

People Under the Stairs – Schooled in the Trade

19 Mar

People Under the Stairs are one of my favorite underground hip-hop groups coming out of Cali. They have that great, genuine west coast feel and love to add jazzy elements to their chill beats…and of course lay down great lyrics all the time. They started making records in the 90’s and have been putting out great albums ever since. “Schooled in the Trade” is one of my favorites from them, being a very chill instrumental with a jazz feel to it. It came off their compilation, The Om Years (2008), which features some of the groups favorite tracks…definitely check it out along with the rest of their albums! Enjoy!
